Privacy Policy

Last updated · June 2026Terms of Use →

This Privacy Policy explains how Cite collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Service. Your documents are yours — we treat them as confidential and never sell your data.

1. Information we collect

We collect account details (name, email), the documents and content you upload, the questions and conversations you create, and usage and device information needed to operate and secure the Service.

2. How we use information

We use information to provide the Service — indexing your sources, generating cited answers, auditing citations, and enabling collaboration — and to maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve reliability. We do not use Your Content to train third-party models without your instruction.

3. Your documents & data

Documents you upload are stored within your organization's workspace and are accessible only to its members according to their roles. Your workspace is yours: you can export or delete your content and your account at any time.

4. Sharing & subprocessors

We share information only with service providers ("subprocessors") that help us run the Service — such as cloud hosting and model providers — under contracts that require appropriate confidentiality and security. We do not sell personal information or document content.

5. Security

We protect data in transit and at rest with encryption, enforce role-based access within workspaces, and apply administrative and technical safeguards aligned with industry best practices. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information and to notify you of incidents where required.

6. Data retention

We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete content or close your account, we delete or de-identify the associated data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing (for example under the LGPD or GDPR). You can exercise many of these directly in-product, or by contacting us.

8. Cookies & international transfers

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences such as theme and language. Where data is transferred across borders, we use appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable law.

9. Changes & contact

We may update this Policy; material changes will be communicated in-product or by email. For privacy questions or to reach our Data Protection Officer, contact privacy@cite.app.
